PHxMaArte is a partnership with MaArte at the Pen, the elegant fundraising bazaar that benefits the Museum Foundation of the Philippines. The foundation’s mission is to raise funds and awareness for the National Museum of the Philippines and its network.
Room 501 will feature brands with a limited number of pieces for MaArte at the Pen and selected graduates of leading fashion schools:
Alexie is a brand known for its unique wearable art with sophisticated pieces ranging from embellished footwear to embroidered and hand-painted clothing. It provides a journey of discovery and a canvas of expression, conceiving pieces that will make people stop, stare, and wonder.
BASIC MOVEMENT is an experimental retail platform that aims to create heightened experiences through product design and collaborative projects with artists and artisans. For PHx Maarte, the brand debuts Polo Redux, a collection of casual everyday polo shirts designed in collaboration with other brands and artists such as Isabel Santos, Chaiseng, and Antonina. For PHxMaArte, Basic Movement brings on different versions of the humble button-down, viewed through the eyes of varied Filipino creatives.
Feanne is an artist and surface designer specializing in detailed illustrated pattern prints for fabric and wallpaper. Her art typically features ornate stylized tropical flora and fauna. She has been exhibiting and publishing her work since 2006, producing her own line of predominantly silk scarves and reversible kimonos since 2015.
Land of Nod
Land of Nod is a collection of loungewear suitable for those who just want to hang, made for individuals who seek comfort without sacrificing style even while in the confines of their own spaces. Land of Nod elevates the art of unwinding, bringing forth apparel that imbues relaxation with a healthy dollop of creativity.
The PHx Fashion Group also worked in consultation with fashion programs from three leading schools to provide the opportunity for selected graduates to participate in MaArte at the Pen 2022:
CLIO DL by Clio de Leon (De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde)
Clio De Leon specializes in womenswear, from RTW to custom-made. She wants women to feel liberated, confident, and empowered through her juxtaposition of contrasts: feminine details with masculine cuts, and minimalist silhouettes with artistic prints.
Kill Joy Studios by Eugene Malabad (iAcademy)
Eugene Malabad is the Creative Director and founder of Kill Joy Studios. The mundane things in his daily commute inspired ROTONDA, his graduation collection. He translated details from jeepneys, trains, and telephone lines into the silhouettes and embellishments of his clothes. The buzz, energy, and movement of the people in the streets served as the influence for the colors and accessories of his garments.
Le Ngok by Jiale Zhang (SoFA)
Le Ngok takes us on an immersive journey, a narrative of the highs and lows of its designer Carla Zhang.Proudly handcrafted in the Philippines, Le Ngok pushes the boundaries of experimental design through the use of mixed media and a multitude of innovative techniques. Each Le Ngok piece brings a sensorial experience, allowing the wearer to express their unique style through statement pieces.
MaArte at the Pen runs from August 19 to 21, 2022 at the Peninsula Manila’s Ayala Wing, 5th, 6th, and 7th floors.
